Elné Pretorius is an actress, film score composer and voice artist best known for her part as Katherine Harkness in the hit SABC1 sci-fi series Room 9 (2012-2013). In early 2009, when she was 16 years old, Elné was featured on 5fm’s live to the power of 5fm alongside Contradicting Clouds, an alternative rock group in which she was the vocalist, pianist and songwriter. She gave a solo performance in the music video for her song “Sophistry”, shot in the United Kingdom. Elné has also collaborated with other artists as actress and model in their music videos. The first part she played as a professional actress was Elizabeth Cilliers in Deon Opperman’s Afrikaans television drama Hartland (2011). She made her professional theatre debut in the same year at the Aardklop National Arts Festival when she played the part of Suzzi in Deon Opperman’s stage drama Aantrekkingskrag, a role that was especially written for her. Her role in Oscar nominated director Darrel Roodt’s 13-part sci-fi series Room 9 followed a year later and she had the opportunity to work with directors John Barker (Spud 3), Charlie Vundla (How to Steal Two Million) and Athos Kyrus (Isidingo), among others. The show aired in South Africa and in the United Kingdom in 2013. She has played supporting roles in a few Afrikaans films, these include the role of “Sally” in “Lien se Lankstaanskoene (2013) ,“Denise” in The Film Factory’s kiddie movie “Agent 2000” (2014) and “Like my Profile” (2012), one of the top 6 short films at the KykNet Silwerskerm film festival. In 2014 she was featured in two advertisements, one for Coca-Cola’s Share a Coke campaign (Russia, Belgium & UK) and Flight Centre (SA). In 2015, Elné portrayed the role of “Annie” in The Star Gazers, a screen adaptation of Herman Charles Bosman’s stories. Elné is interested in in-depth acting roles and hopes for the chance to play strong female characters in her career. Apart from her interest in playing such characters, there is no doubt that she is a strong woman who has a drive to help make a positive change in the world. Besides having a passion for performance art, Elné also has a keen interest in orchestration for film & TV, writing, design, design activism, production, direction and business. She has finished her honors degree in Information Design at the University of Pretoria and received a Professional Certificate in Songwriting as well as Music Composition for Film & TV from Berklee College of Music (USA). She has a scholarship to study Acting for Film at the New York Film Academy (USA) in 2016 and will reside in the United States for the coming year.
