After having successfully done her thing at the Dept. Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of the Free State, including walking away with three awards for outstanding creative, academic and technical contributions, Lymari Alberts swung by Johannesburg for a quick performance in a local theatre. She liked it, so she stayed. She worked as a freelance actress for more than six various production companies the past three years, and also as production assistant on the hit MTV series, #yougotgot. She made her television debut playing Megan on Jongo, and along the way, she established her own theatre company, Maskerteer Productions. In her time as an actor, she has graced the stage at many a national arts festival, including the Free State Arts Festival, KKnK, Inniebos and Aardklop. In 2017, Lymari will reside in Hong Kong, working as a drama practitioner and set designer. Her one woman show Mooi Annie is the first Afrikaans theatrical show to be staged in Hong Kong. This year she will have the opportunity to participate in the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) examinations to sharpen and broaden her set of skills even further, and to leave her mark on Hong Kong’s theatre industry, before returning to South Africa.
