Thandi Puren has been on stage, in front of the camera or behind the microphone for the past 20 years. She studied Drama at The National School of the Arts and then went on to further her studies at AFDA. Her passion for performance has been formative in her life, she is committed to her roles and dedicated to her work. A Mother of two beautiful girls she has focussed on Voice work for the past decade in order to enjoy raising them. Thandi is one of South Africa's top voice artists, working on a variety of campaigns both locally and internationally. Thandi recently co-starred in Siembamba - a South African horror film directed by Darrell Roodt, receiving widespread international acclaim. Before that she was seen on local TV screens in the critically acclaimed Drama series Sober Companion. Most recently she played a guest role on the much loved local soapie 7de Laan. Thandi is attracted to complexity, to characters that are challenging - not only to portray, but to understand and digest. Her body of theatre work includes The Sound of Music, Masterclass and the emotionally intense Closer. Her film repertoire includes Racing Stripes, Crazy Monkey - Straight Outta Benoni and Dead Easy. She is equally comfortable performing in English and Afrikaans and has moderate use of German too. Whether Thandi is playing a woman worn down by loss, a love-crazed stalker, a no-nonsense NIA agent, or a deeply damaged mother - Puren's ability to morph into diverse characters, and the depth to which she plays them, is mesmerizing. She remains on of those actresses that writer-directors find themselves writing roles for. Once she takes on a character, she plays it with exceptional resourcefulness and fearless vulnerability.
