Dance has always been a passion ever since Versha Magan can remember. She did 3 years of ballet training starting at the age of 8, moving to modern dance for another 2 years and then finding herself drawn to Indian dance since. Part of her training has been the North Indian Kathak style of dance, partly trained in London. The contemporary and Bollywood Jazz styles followed later on. Sharing her knowledge and ability of dance as a teacher at the Jhankaar School of Dance for 21 years has been the most rewarding experience spiritually, physically and mentally. With every annual production (18 productions), she was given an opportunity to choreograph which excited her to the core. Her choreography of Surya - 2007 and Garam Masala - 2008, was also showcased at the FNB Dance Umbrella, respectively. Versha was selected to assist with the choreography for the internationally acclaimed production RED (2006) by Raza Jaffrey who did Bombay Dreams with Andrew Lloyd Webber. Versha performed and assisted with choreography in the production FUSION (2005/6), by Tyrone Watkins. The 2009 production Mumbai Nagari gave Versha the opportunity to create 2 unique pieces of work, Garam Masala and Traffic. Versha received drama training at Brumilda van Rensburg’s Academy, Actor’s Centre and with Rajesh Gopie :Acting 101”. Her television work included, commercials for Vodacom, Sunlight and Halifax, Cell C, Cricket Promo The Raj, . Versha also appeared in the film sequel, MR BONES GOES TO DURBS, Short Film Die Stom, Isidingo, Versha Magan runs her own Dance Academy since 2007, currently with over 100 students. Teaching students from as little as 4 years old to 50 years, adapting styles like Indian Classical Kathak, Bollywood, Jazz, hip-hop, contemporary. The Academy’s Annual shows are done at The Lyric Theatre to give students a full on Theatre experience. The 10 Shows have had phenomenal feedback from parents and the public. Her work is testament to her doing a fabulous job which includes, teaching, choreography, admin, producing, directing and costume design.
