Highlights of Tiaan’s career thus far has been performing in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s highly acclaimed musical, ‘The Boys in the Photograph’, during the 2010 World Cup at the Mandela Theatre. Also, sharing a stage with South-African Pop-star Elvis Blue and releasing his own single, Girl in the Moon, and music video, which was directed and produced by Matthew Marinus. He has produced a student theatre piece, which he wrote en directed, called Hillbrow, with great successes at the Festival for Excellence in Dramatic Art held annually at the Fringe at Joburg Theatre. Tiaan started performing at the age of 5 years. At the age of 6, before he could read, he completed the UNISA vocal exam and scored 83%. Tiaan was selected to join the Cantare Children's Choir, which is an elite regional choir on the East Rand, when he was 9 years old and was a chorister in this choir for 4 years. He traveled overseas with the choir in 2008, to compete in the World Choir Games, held in Graz, Austria. The choir received one gold and one silver medal at the Games. From time to time he still performs with the choir as a soloist. In 2009 Tiaan enrolled for the Trinity Grade 2 and Grade 4 exam and passed both with distinctions and received the highest mark in Johannesburg. Tiaan completed his Trinity Grade 7 Vocal exam and passed with distinction. He also completed his UNISA grade 5 Piano exam. Tiaan performed as the guest performer at a spring festival in 2009, and held his own show on the Coca-Cola Gig Rig. He was also selected as the most outstanding private student for the year of 2009 at the Stageworx Performing Arts Academy. In 2010 Tiaan was cast in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Ben Elton's ’The Boys in the Photograph’, the critically acclaimed musical, performed at the Mandela Theatre, which was directed by Janice Honeyman. Tiaan played leading roles in stage productions, like ‘Annie’ and ‘Mary Poppins’ as well as high school productions at Helpmekaar College for the last 3 years. He recently shared a stage with Jannie du Toit and Clinton Zerf for a CANSA charity event. In 2013 he travelled overseas with the Helpmekaar College Choir to Prague, in the Czech Republic. There the choir competed in a world renowned Christmas competition where they received a gold medal and won their category. The choir landed in the Top 4 overall.   He was a soloist during this period. He is also a member of the Helpmekaar College Orchestra, playing piano, guitar and performing as soloist. In July 2013 Tiaan won the Holiday Inn Express "Singer/Songwriter Competition", which was hosted by Stageworx Performing Arts Academy and Talent Etc. Resulting from this win, Tiaan recorded his own single, ‘Girl in the Moon’, and shot the music video for it which was directed by Matthew Marinus. Tiaan participated in many competitions, such as Supersterre, Radio Pulpit's Tehila Competition etc. He was the runner up in an Idols competition held at the Alberton Lewenssentrum Church in 2008, in which 250 children participated. Tiaan participated in the Alberton Eisteddfod every year up until 2013, in numerous items, including drama, poetry, instrumental and vocal items and scored above 90% in most of the items. He was the Item Winner in many of these items over the years and has been nominated section winner and finalist in the ATKV Eisteddfod vocal category numerous times. In May 2015 Tiaan participated in the Festival of Excellence in Dramatic Arts (FEDA), held annually at the Fringe Theatre in Johannesburg. He entered an original One Act Play which he directed. 42 Schools participated in this competition. His one act play won awards for Best Director, Best Sound, Best Special Effects, Best Set, Best Film and Multi Media and a special award for Most Inspirational Performance. The play was also nominated for Best Performance, Best Poster Design, Best Costume Design and Best Original Text. He has been featured in cameo roles for the film Eintlik Nogal Baie and the soap Sewende Laan. He is currently studying film and drama at the Performance Art Lifestyle Institute. Tiaan loves performing, creating creative works and is pursuing a career in the arts.
