Bouwer Bosch is a well-known celebrity in South Africa. He is better known as the lead singer of the SAMA nominated and multi award-winning group Straatligkinders, and member of the smash hit duo group Dans Dans Lisa, with Deon Meiring of the band Glaskas. He further describes himself as a cyber space fundie, entrepreneur, struggling actor and innovator.
Bouwer is currently part of a production company, Bouwer Bosch Films, which produces music videos and boast a great record in terms of airplay on DSTV and he is also ambassador for his own charity organisation, Liefde Wen.
Bouwer was born in 1984 in Pretoria and two days after his birth his family moved to Potchefstroom, where he also obtained a BA Communications degree at the North West University in 2009.
Bouwer Bosch’s debut solo album Almal maak Voute is produced by Wynand Delport and was released in 2011. The music video of the first single Vertel My reached MK’s Top 10 within the first week of release with nearly 10,000 hits on Youtube. The music video for the second single Orkes Moles was released in November 2011, and several other music videos from the album followed suit in 2012.
Bouwer has collaborated with some renowned artists in the SA music industry on his debut full-length album including Steve Hofmeyer, Jaco van der Merwe of Bittereinder and Lindie Delport of Anders.
In April 2012, Bouwer released his much-anticipated third music video for his single, (K)anker to critical acclaim. The video reached nr. 1 on the MK Top 10 Music Videos Chart and stayed at the top spot for two weeks.
Bouwer received a Ghoema Award Nomination for Beste Nuweling in 2012 for Almal Maak Voute as well as a MK Award Nomination in 2013 for Best Solo for the video for (K)anker. Bouwer also MC’ed the prestigious MK Award Ceremony in 2013 with Jaco van der Merwe, and the two of them also performed (K)anker live at the event.
In 2013, Bouwer made his film acting debut by playing the character of shell-shocked Brian - a talented cameraman who has just returned from Afghanistan, alongside Afrikaans stalwarts such as Hykie Berg, Anel Alexander and many more in the movie Klein Karoo. Klein Karoo was released in February 2013. Bouwer was also be seen in the KykNet series Donkerland, and Ligte Kamera Liefde this year, the latter for which he also wrote and performed the theme song of the series.
