Eghard Basson’s formal drama training started in 2011, after switching from law to drama. He regularly performed monologues at his school’s culture evenings. He started with his musical training at age 7: first piano and later followed recorder and flute. He also achieved one of the highest practical marks in the Eastern Cape for his matric music examination. Eghard’s vocal training started when he was part of the Eastern Cape Children’s Choir for four years, and later the Eastern Cape Youth Choir for three years and finally ended up in the world number one Stellenbosch University Choir under direction of Andre van der Merwe. Eghard specialised in speech and voice and the Stellenbosch University Drama Department where obtained his honours degree cum laude. During his four years at the Drama Department he played in numerous productions for the Department as well as other production houses: directors includes Marthinus Basson, Antoinette Kellermann, Prof. Petrus du Preez, Niel Rademan, Schalk van der Merwe, Juanita Swanepoel and Dr. Mareli Pretorius. He also made his television debut on Die Boland Moorde for KykNET, and later appeared in a music video for Take 2 Productions, also for KykNET. His first text, Moedersmelk, performed at the Stellenbosch Woordfees in 2016. He is currently the Dramatic Arts teacher at Helpmekaar Kollege in Johannesburg where, under his direction, they partake in various acting competitions such as the ATKV Tienertoneel (final in 2016) and the National Acting Competition hosted by Bellville High.
