Johan Anker has been a passionate performer and actor from a very young age. He received singing and drama lessons from the age of 9 and to pursue both singing and acting. Johan was a member of the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, where after he continued his schooling in Port Elizabeth. Here he was a star pupil and Head Boy of his school. He had Classical Singing as school subject until Matric where he earned one of the highest marks in the Eastern Cape. As a member of his Schools Drama Society he has earned the Best Drama Student award for multiple years. Johan completed his Bachelor’s in Drama Degree in 2013 and was a Golden Key Society Member as one of the highest achievers in the faculty. While completing his Drama Degree he obtained a Grade 7 Classical Singing Certificate from Royal Schools as well as being a part time student at Stellenbosch Music Department. He has been in multiple productions such as Skoonlief en die Ondier under direction of Mareli Pretorius, Yerma by Juanita Swanepoel, Bloedbruilof and Voëlishness (a one man show) under direction of the acclaimed Marthinus Basson. He has also stared as the lead role, in a small film Duppies in Stellenbosch under director Charles Biggs. He made his first television appearance in Boland Moorde on KykNet. Besides singing at the corporate event SA Bachelor of the Year for CANSA, he received the title of Runner Up (2015) which received media coverage from KykNet. Some of his interviewee experience includes a radio interview by RSG’s Befonk and Kyknet’s Bravo and Kollig. Johan has been an MC and performer at many corporate events and enjoys this thoroughly as well. In 2016 Johan was a talent on South Africa’s newest singing reality show; The Voice South Africa. Here he become recognized as the “Opera Dude”, singing classical songs on the show. Some of his performances on the show have been shared on international websites and received rave reviews. He made it to the live rounds of the show, making it all the way to the Top 32. Currently he is also a drama and English teacher at The National School of the Arts in Johannesburg. Johan strives to live a fulfilled life, using every opportunity to live out his God given passion and talent for acting and singing. He finds his solid ground in his faith and the assurance of knowing that he works hard and strives to be the best at whatever he applies himself to.
