Getting to know Jana Fischer

Your acting career to date. You’ve starred in 7de Laan and in Villa Rosa - Tell us about these experiences?
I had a very small appearance in Egoli just before I finished my studies in 2006. In 2007 I started touring with a theatre group, which performed prescribed books for grades 11 and 12. After that I had a break, just because I couldn’t find a job, and decided to go to Dubai to be an air hostess. I did enjoy it in the East. It was part of my journey to learn what is important in life and most of all, that the grass is not greener on the other side. After a year and a half, I returned to SA, feeling the time was right to do what I was trained for. I know now that you can’t be happy if you don’t do what you love. My first role was in Villa Rosa and two months later I landed a part in 7de Laan.

What is the highlight of your career so far?
Working on Vallei van Sluiers! I had the time of my life on set. Not only was it a wonderful concept to be part of, but the cast I worked with was amazing. I worked with actors that have been in the industry for many years, so I learned a lot from them.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
'Be ready to learn something new every moment of your life'
- this advise keeps me going, cause you have a positive approach on every situation then.

We often hear about the glamorous life of performers - can you describe a moment where it hasn’t felt glamorous at all?
Glamorous is relative...

No, but I'm looking forward to have one of those not so glamorous days. I want to do scenes where I have to put my mind over matter, like let's say it's the middle of the night, in winter, and I have to do a scene where I'm supposed to fall off a boat into the freezing water and still keep on acting.

Have you had any interesting experiences with fanatical or over-excited fans?
Everyone that has ever approached me has been very polite when they asked for an autograph or to take a picture.

What is your favourite way to spend your free time and relax?
Oh I love spending time with my friends at my favourite Café. And if I can't get hold of them, I will read, watch DVD's or go shopping.
